Dr. Liren Liao's main research areas include the application of head and neck soft tissue ultrasound, head and neck cancer database research, and head and neck cancer examination and treatment. He currently serves as Director of the ENT Department at Far Eastern Memorial Hospital.

Advanced Head & Neck Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
Since 2007, Dr. Liao has specialized in head and neck cancers and nasopharyngeal carcinoma at Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, participating in international research published in major journals. He currently serves as Secretary-General of the Taiwan Head and Neck Oncology Society, promoting academic development and innovative treatments, and was awarded the 2022 National Innovation Award for immunotherapy.
Head & Neck Cancer Patient Care
The Far Eastern Memorial Hospital head and neck cancer team, led by Deputy Director Peng Yusen, follows a patient-centered model, integrating multidisciplinary physicians and professional teams to provide comprehensive care. In 2022, the team received quality certification for head and neck cancer care from the Joint Commission of Taiwan, becoming a key treatment center in Northern Taiwan.
Development of Head & Neck Ultrasound
Focusing on neck ultrasound research, Dr. Liao obtained professor qualification at Yuan Ze University in 2022, becoming the first ENT specialist in Taiwan promoted due to ultrasound development. He leads a team advancing ultrasound diagnosis and treatment, including cyst alcohol injection and radiofrequency ablation, promotes insurance coverage, and has won multiple awards for publications. Actively organizes training courses and exchanges with physicians domestically and internationally, expanding ultrasound applications for patient benefit and improving clinical standards.
Establishment of Far Eastern Medical Instrument Room
Appointed the first Director of the Medical Instrument Room in 2018, Dr. Liao promoted digital management and cloud system development, winning the 2019 National Medical Quality Award. During the pandemic, he led research on ventilator ozone sterilization and established standard procedures. Assisted Belize medical staff in 2022, and handed over the director role in 2023.
Director of ENT Department at Far Eastern Memorial Hospital
The ENT department was established in 1981 and restructured in 2023 as a full ENT Department under Dr. Liao as the first director, creating five subspecialties and fully developing professional clinical services.
