Historical Overview

1. April 1981 – Department of Otolaryngology established at Far Eastern Memorial Hospital. Dr. Huang Bo-Rong served as the first director.
2. October 1983 – Dr. Hong Xuan-Yan appointed as second director.
3. July 2001 – Dr. Zheng Bo-Wen appointed as director, expanding subspecialties including otology, rhinology, laryngology, and head & neck oncology.
4. September 1, 2023 – Department upgraded to Division of Otolaryngology. Dr. Liao Li-Ren appointed as division chief.

Clinical Services

As the only medical center in New Taipei City, the hospital is responsible for ENT and head & neck cancer care. Approximately 6,000 outpatient visits and 600 surgical procedures are performed monthly.

Education

We train residents in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, and aerodigestive tract medicine. Clinical training includes outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, operating rooms, and emergency care under senior supervision. The program emphasizes medical quality improvement and leadership development.

Research

Faculty members conduct multiple National Science and Technology Council-funded projects, making the department a major academic center in Taiwan.

ENT team

Since its establishment in 1981, the department has developed subspecialties including otology, rhinology, laryngology, and head & neck oncology. In 2023, it was reorganized into a division structure with five subspecialty units:

4. Head & Neck Oncology
5. General & Pediatric Otolaryngology
